The Safest Driving Song
Psychologist Simon Moore collaborated with professional musicians to create the world’s safest driving song. The song “Safe in Sound” mimics the tempo of the human heart rate. The song is purely instrumental and contains no words.
In a recent survey, drivers admitted that the music they listen to has an influence on their driving, some even saying that they have had an accident in which the music they were playing was a contributing factor.
Croatia’s Sea Organ
Most people enjoy the sound of waves crashing on the shore. Croatia took it one step further with their 230-foot sea organ or “morske orguulje” in Croatian. Located on the Adriatic Sea, in Zadar, the organ was built in 2005 by local architect, Nikola Basic. The organ is designed to look like stairs and has strategically placed holes for the water to enter and exit, creating an enchanting sound like no other.
The sea organ has made Zadar a popular place for locals to hang out, eat lunch, or watch the sunset. It has become another reason tourists are attracted to the area. So if you have the opportunity to hear the hypnotic notes played 24-hours a day by the sea, it is definitely worthwhile.
Cajón Drum
A cajón is a six-sided musical instrument that originated from Peru. This box shaped instrument is part of the percussion family. Its name, is a Spanish word meaning “box” or “crate”.
The cajón is made of wood on five sides, with a sixth side made of a thinner plywood. The sixth side serves as the striking surface and is commonly referred to as the “tapa”. A sound hole is carved out of the back of the cajón drum. Some newer versions may also have cords stretched across the top to give an additional tone.
Top Secret Drum Corps
Top Secret is a group of 25 talented drummers from Basel, Switzerland. Their popularity grew after playing at the Edinburg Military Tattoo in 2003. They are now one of the most sought after drumming groups.
The city of Basel, from which the Top Secret Drum Corps hails, is rich in drumming history. It dates back to the Middle Ages and the militaristic drumming of Swiss soldiers. Basel is said to have over 3,000 drummers playing throughout the city at festivals and parades.
